Experimental Parachute Tester

Bored with peacetime duty in the 82nd Airborne Division, Hal Moore volunteered to test parachutes. Here is his jump log from that assignment. As his handwritten note on the front page notes, this is not his entire jump history. This log leaves out significant numbers. What is really interesting is to note the parachute failures – including his very first jump as a tester.

His ability to recover from failures earned him the nickname of “Lucky” from then Lt Colonel Kinnard – his future Division Commander in the 1st Cavalry Division.
